Castleman Eye Center is excited to announce a new program that provides cataract surgery at no cost to the patient. We are able to provide surgery to patients who have no insurance and no means of affording cataract surgery due to financial hardship. We have partnered with the Southgate Surgery Center and they are donating their facility, surgical supplies and lens implants to this program. The Castleman Eye Center surgeons and Metropolitan Anesthesia Consultants are donating their services to these patients.
The physicans of Castleman Eye Center feel that with tough times in the local economy and so many people who have lost their jobs and health insurance, it's our turn to help the community that we have practiced in for 40 years.
Patients must meet certain criteria, such as:
- You must have been diagnosed with a cataract.
- You must have no health insurance. (No Medicare, Medicaid, BC, etc)
- You are unable to drive, work or function in your daily life.
- You do not have the financial means to pay for surgery and must meet
HHS 2011 Poverty Guidelines as indicated below:

- You must sign an affidavit stating the above.
- Patient must bring medical clearance from doctor on initial visit that states in good health and able to undergo surgery.
- Patient has no other eye disease or medical issue that could preclude them from having surgery.
If you do not qualify for this program financially, we do offer a very affordable option for uninsured patients who wish to pay for their surgery. Because we have access to our own surgery center, we are able to save uninsured patients considerable costs when compared to surgery at a local hospital.
